Volunteer

Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow has many unique and varied volunteer opportunities! People with a range of skills and interests are needed to support our educational programs, activities, and conservation efforts. The volunteer assignments are so varied that there’s a time, place and function for everyone who respects nature and is interested in sharing their time.

Weekly Volunteer Opportunities: Would you like a regular schedule for volunteering? Then you might like one of these great opportunities:

  • Facility and Property Volunteers: Work with us to enhance our 110-acre property throughout the year. We need help trimming and improving trails, controlling invasive species, landscaping, and working in our vegetable garden. Or help with general upkeep and cleaning of our buildings. If you have special skills such as carpentry or gardening, or you just like to work outside, come lend us a hand!
  • Education Center Greeters: Bucks Audubon sees hundreds of visitors each month and greeters are vital to making everyone feel welcome! Help visitors find the right trail to hike, introduce people to our wonderful programs, and encourage them to learn about our history.
  • Animal Care Volunteers: Everyone loves to learn about animals and our ambassador animals, from Sugar the Box Turtle to Hyla the Grey Tree Frog, are always a big hit. But like all animals they need love and care. Help with cleaning, feeding and enrichment of our live animals.
  • Office and Public Relations Volunteers: Assist our staff with a wide variety of office and public relations tasks, from data entry to filing to writing blogs and updating our website. Your skills and interests will guide your tasks.

Committee Volunteers: Our volunteer committees work in conjunction with the Board of Directors to provide essential leadership and help guide the organization. Join a committee to lend your support! If you are interested in joining, email Executive Director, Michael Celec at mcelec@bcas.org . Committees include:

  • Property Committee – Maintain our open space, historic buildings, and facilities
  • Outreach Committee – Become an Ambassador for Bucks Audubon through community engagement, special events and fundraising
  • Finance Committee – Help review and plan for long-term financial sustainability of the organization
  • Education Committee – Brainstorm new programs and innovative ways for Bucks Audubon to improve the quality of our environmental education
  • Advocacy Committee – Be a voice for the environment! Check our Advocacy page to see what we are all about.
  • Community Science Committee – Engage the public with citizen science programs that can be done at home, on our property, and all around the world! Check out our Community Science page for more information.

Special Events Volunteers: Each year, Bucks Audubon hosts a variety of different special events. These events rely on volunteers for everything from planning to set-up to parking. Past events included, Earth Day Festival, Raptor Run 5K, Art Shows and Sales, Wildlife Festival, and Haunted Trails.

Community Science Volunteers: Opportunities to collect important data for scientists around the world are available year-round or short term. From stream monitoring to bird counts to nest watch, there are many projects to choose from.

Conservation Corps: Don’t have time to volunteer weekly, or your schedule only allows for volunteering on evenings and weekends, consider one of these great new conservation volunteer opportunities.

  • Adopt-a-Trail: Whether an individual, family, club or other group, consider adopting a section of trail! A few hours a month, on your schedule, can make a huge difference.
  • Habitat Steward: Perfect for those who love the outdoors and don’t mind getting dirty! Adopt a garden or section of our newly installed stream buffer! Monthly visits to remove invasive plants, check for deer browse and general maintenance will help these areas thrive and be important habitat for local birds and wildlife.
  • Teen Conservation Corps: Summer opportunities for ages 13-18. Teens will meet each Thursday in July from 9:00-noon and work on conservation projects, such as riparian buffers, invasive plant removal, or pollinator plantings.

Monthly Volunteer Workdays: Each month we will gather to work on a variety of projects around the property, from invasive plant removal to building maintenance to tree planting. Join us on the third Saturday of each month from 10:00-1:00. To learn more, contact Alicia Fenske at afenske@bcas.org

Education Volunteers: Do you want to take part in our environmental education programs, then consider one of these opportunities.

  • Teacher Naturalists (volunteer or paid position): Do you love to teach about nature? Consider becoming a Teacher Naturalist and help to teach onsite for field trips, scouts and community groups, or visit local classrooms and community centers. Teacher Naturalist trainings are offered in the spring and fall. For more information about this program, please contact Diane Smith at dianesmith@bcas.org or call 215-297-5880
  • Summer Camp Volunteers: This opportunity is open to anyone 14 years and older and is a great opportunity for high school students looking for community service hours. Assist educators with our camp program and be a great role model for campers connecting with nature.
