In-School Education Programs

 

In-school curricula are designed to correspond with the Pennsylvania Science, Technology & Engineering, Environmental Literacy and Sustainability (STEELS) Standards.  Programs can be differentiated according to grade level and classroom goals.  Programs can be developed as a one-hour assembly or as a classroom-to-classroom visit!  With live animals, hands-on activities, observations and exploration, we will bring science to life for your students!

Program Fee:

  • 1 hour program – $150.00
  • Any additional classroom visits – $75.00

 

Life Science

BUTTERFLIES – THE BIGGEST CHANGE!

Growing up is all about big changes and butterflies have the biggest one of all, Metamorphosis!  Go through these big changes through images and discover how the hungry caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly!                            STEELS: 3.1.1.C, 3.1.3.C, 3.1.1.B, 3.1.2.B

BUTTERFLIES & MOTHS – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Are you able to tell the difference between butterflies and moths? Students will discover amazing adaptations of these fabulous pollinators through taxidermy examples and images! Students will then color a moth or butterfly to be used in a “hide and seek” activity to put their new knowledge to the test!

SCALES, SHELLS, & ARMOR

Reptiles sometimes get a bad reputation!  This program examines the characteristics and adaptations of different reptiles!  Students will have the opportunity to meet some live animals to observe these animals up close and personal.

POLLINATORS

Honeybees aren’t the only ones to smell the roses!  Students will explore how different species get their needs met through the process of pollination.  Students will use images, taxidermy and an interactive activity to explore the life of pollinators!

BARN OWLS IN SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA

Barn owls are one of the most identifiable species of these nocturnal birds! In this program, students will learn about how owls hunt and survival adaptations through images and a taxidermy example!  Students will also have the opportunity to dissect and owl pellet to determine what was for dinner!

CROAKS, TRILLS, & SPLASHES

Discover the adaptations and characteristics of frogs and toads!  Students will go through these amphibians’ life cycle and even meet one of our animal ambassadors!

BENTHIC MACRO-INVERTEBRATES

Dive into the tiny world of macro-invertebrates!  These small creatures can tell us TONS of information, especially about water quality.  We will bring the creek to you by bringing a supply taken from Honey Hollow’s stream.  Students will then document and observe to calculate the water quality on our property.

Earth and Space Science

BIRDS AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Birds are important indicators of the health of our environment.  Through looking at data collected by scientists around the world, impacts that we can see in our area, and gaining an understanding of climate change, we will explore how our local birds are impacted by the changing climate.                  STEELS: 3.3.6-8.O
